My new gig with Medium Rare!

Hey folks!
Hope you all are having a lovely June so far! I just wanted to let you all know that you will be seeing more of my film reviews elsewhere! I am now a contributing writer to Medium Rare, a website that highlights the achievements of women and people of color in the film, television, and video game industries. Obviously, this is another exciting opportunity for me to share my love for entertainment, as well as be part of a socially conscious website. Please check out the site at mediumraretv.org, and make sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter! Spread the word—it’s a great and meaningful source for entertainment reviews, commentary, and interviews.

Of course, I will still be posting reviews in Karen On, and will even link to my Medium Rare reviews on there. And I will still be writing for Audrey Magazine. In fact, I’ll be covering the New Filipino Cinema program at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts this weekend! You can check out my author page here. It’s been a fun time writing for them!

Look out for my first Medium Rare review very soon, and thanks for keeping up with me! 🙂 See ya on the other side!

PS What do you all think of the new site layout?

My new gig at Audrey Magazine!

Hey y’all!
For me, the past few months have been nothing but working and playing hard (And spending nights with the San Francisco Giants – yay baseball season!)! My day jobs have been going well, and my internship at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, which wrapped up at the end of last month, was an experience I’ll value forever. As I continue my search to find a full-time job related to my passions and interests, I feel grateful and excited for any opportunities that will allow me to do what I love and develop my craft.

After diving into the PR field at SFIAAFF30, I am going back to writing and will continue to tell stories from the Asian American community with my new gig at Audrey Magazine! Today, I was selected as a Bay Area correspondent for the publication’s website, and will be contributing monthly pieces focusing on happenings, faces, places, and entertainment in the Bay, relevant to the modern Asian American woman. I hope to also be able to produce some rich media for the website. I feel very passionate about this publication and position and I’m incredibly stoked that I’m going to be a part of it!

Not entirely relevant to this new development in my life, but I’m definitely hoping to get back on track with my two blogs, especially now that summer movie season is rolling around! In the meantime, if you ever feel like talking movies, sports, or whatever (And to get updates on my blogs and stories for Audrey once I write them!), I’m always available on Twitter!

And please be sure to visit AudreyMagazine.com and subscribe to email updates, like Audrey on Facebook, and follow Audrey on Twitter! You can also subscribe to their quarterly glossy magazine! As you’ll see right away, they’re pretty darn fabulous!

As always, thank you all for following me on the journey. 🙂

All-new and upcoming for 2012

I know it’s been a week since we rang in the new year, but Happy New Year to all of you and I hope your first week of 2012 was fantastic!

I’ve been fixing little things on this site for the past couple of months and I can now say that it is pretty much complete! My home page sounds punchier; the Portfolio has more accessible navigation; my Activism page now has more than two words on it; I added a Specialties and Services page that explains more about the topics I’m interested in covering and freelance projects I’m open to; my Resume page now has a [less-than-stellar] visual version embedded; and I updated my Media and Work Experience sections with some new ventures.

That’s right: For the next few months, I will be juggling both an office job and an internship! I’ve been enjoying my new morning routine at Cardpool but I am SUPER stoked to be filling the role of Publicity Intern for the 30th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival! It’s going to be such an incredible opportunity for my line of work and having volunteered for the festival a couple of times, I feel so proud to be even more involved with an event and organization that I love so much. I am going to be so busy but after the miserable November-December I’ve had, I couldn’t be happier about having these opportunities. This is what my life is all about. 🙂

The only thing I need for this site is new photography since the photos you’re seeing are over a year old, but I’m trying to shoot for the end of the month to take them down and replace them with more current portraits. To be honest though, I haven’t really changed much in my appearance at all, haha!

I’m going to continue to work hard and hope that 2012 will be a milestone year. It’s definitely off to a good start! Thank you all for sticking with me and to all my new visitors, friends, and colleagues, welcome! And to each and every single one of you, I hope 2012 will be a spectacular time in your lives!

Best wishes,
Karen
