The State of Arcades: A Writer’s Memories and Perspectives from Gamers | The Hudsucker

Through the shutdowns and major changes, it’s easy to point out that the video game arcade landscape is drastically transforming. You may have to go even farther and wider to find one, but supporting the ones that are still around is necessary to keep them going.

Come to CAAMFest (March 14-24, 2013)!

A little more than a year ago, I was burning DVD screeners, reviewing films at weekly meetings, editing press materials, and being an all-around badass in preparation for the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.

Now, it’s time for the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival to roll around again but this year, with an all-new moniker: CAAMFest. CAAMFest will not only to continue to showcase the latest and greatest works in Asian American cinema, but will also be a celebration of music, food, and culture. I’m not only excited to immerse myself in the brand new offerings, but I’m proud to say that I was able to contribute to the 2013 festival too.

This past summer, I served on the Screening Committee for the Shorts program. I had the chance to view and evaluate some of the short films that you may be seeing at the festival. I think the Shorts Curators put together some great programs with themes and films that will speak to everyone, in terms of the types of films they enjoy and what’s important to them.

Furthermore, I got to write a couple of program notes for the official festival program guide, so you’ll see my name underneath a couple of blurbs when you pick one up. It’s always fun to watch films and write something catchy to get other people to watch them!

I”m so grateful for those at CAAM (Center for Asian American Media) for allowing me to make these contributions and I’m so excited for what they’re accomplishing in the rebranding of one of San Francisco and the Asian American and film communities’ largest and most important events.

So if you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, please support this amazing organization and the incredible filmmakers, acting talent, musicians, taste makers, and media makers that will be featured at this year’s festival. There are lots of social events and galas too, so it’s also a perfect excuse to party!

Karen On Has Relaunched!

After a couple of months of planning, brainstorming, redesigning, and writing on a temp blog and a weekend of importing and completely switching gears, I am back on the mothership! I’d like to officially welcome you to the all-new Karen On, an ongoing personal yet easy-to-relate-to experience in the blogosphere. Instead of simply reading about my thoughts on the latest in entertainment, you’ll read about everything that touches my life, from sports and San Francisco to current world events and what I do when I’m at a crossroads. I am inspired and energized by everything around me, and in turn, I’d like to share all of that with anyone who’ll read and hope that it does something for them in some way.

Check out what else is new!
